The City of Markham, the City of Richmond Hill and Smart Commute invite you to gear up for Bike Month in June! Bike Month is a celebration of all things cycling and the perfect time to get active outside by bike! There are cycling routes throughout the region to help you to your destination for recreation and commuting.



Smart Commute Bike Month Contest


Log cycling trips for a chance to WIN a $100 e-gift card!


How to participate:

  • Log your bike trips on SmartCommute.ca for a chance to win a $100 e-gift card, courtesy of York Region (5 available).
  • Bike trips taken between June 1 to June 30, 2024 are eligible, and must be logged by 11:59pm EST on July 7 to qualify for the prize draw.
  • Up to two (2) bike trips per day are eligible for the contest.
  • Each respective Smart Commute office reserves the right to distribute prizes, subject to change without notice.

Note: Logging a bike trip on SmartCommute.ca automatically enters you into the Smart Commute Contest and winners may choose to opt out receiving the prize. Click here to download the official York Region contest rules.

Bike Day in Newmarket: Saturday, June 1 from 10 - 11 AM

Drop into Bike Day hosted by Smart Commute Central York. The event will feature refreshments, family activities, a contest, and new for 2024 – a bike parade at 11am!

Markham Cycling Day: Sunday, June 9 from 8 AM - 1 PM

Ready, set go! The City of Markham is hosting its popular event in Downtown Markham featuring Tour de Markham group rides in 12KM (family-friendly), 30KM and 60KM as well as children’s races. Sponsored by York Region, event details here.

Going by Bike: Thursday, June 13 from 12 - 1 PM

Cycle Toronto will show you how you can do more of your daily trips by bike and how easy it can be! We’ll walk you through how you can do everything from commuting to work, picking up your kids, and even grocery shopping by bike. Learn about road rules, how to navigate the different types of urban cycling infrastructure, and how to map out a safe and efficient commute.

Basic Bike Maintenance: Wednesday, June 19 from 12 - 1 PM

Learn the basics of how to maintain your bike! Topics include: safety checks, assessing air pressure and flat tires, tightening your brakes, lubing your chain, and ensuring your bike is the right fit.
